In less than a week, I’ll be 20-years-old and a junior in college.
Whaaaaat?
Although I know each passing day will offer new opportunities and adventures, part of me wishes I could age backwards into the prime of childhood: waking up whenever you want, spending the day with your mom or dad, eating tasty snacks and treats, catching fireflies… Who wouldn’t want that innocent, carefree life again?
Of course, though, reality is never too far away, directing me back toward adulthood where I must eventually say goodbye to school, summer breaks and my teens.
Or do I?
Although, growing up will bring changes, I do not have to become some kind of curmudgeon who never has any fun. In fact, inside our aging bodies lives the memories and heart of childhood.
Now, I know this may sound incredibly hokey, but you get the idea: life is about having fun. So even though we can’t come home from work or school and swing on a playground, we can laugh and enjoy life like we did as children. For example, when was the last time you went for a bike ride or bought a popsicle from the ice cream truck?
Simply put, today’s world is full of continuous news coverage alerting us to tragedies and problems. On top of that stress, we have deadlines to meet and assignments to get done. As a result, we can easily forget how to be happy.
Therefore, we can reinvigorate our lives by revisiting joy. In other words, don’t lose a grip on reality, but don’t let it brainwash you either. So, live like a kid by remembering what it’s like to have fun.
Isn’t that what life is all about anyway?
Sincerely,
Ash
